Why I Saved My Childhood Sticker Collection (and Why I’m Finally Selling It)

When I was a kid, I absolutely loved collecting stickers. I might’ve even been a little obsessed. I don’t know if any of you collected stickers growing up, but I wanted every rainbow, unicorn, and Lisa Frank design the sticker world had to offer.

Super Organized

Childhood sticker collection: After I had filled pages with unicorns and rainbows, I expanded my collection to scratch-and-sniff stickers. And unlike most kids, I didn’t feel the urge to stick them everywhere. Nope—I wanted to organize them. So all of my unicorn stickers stayed together, carefully placed into those old magnetic photo albums (does anyone remember those?). I would slide the full sticker sheets inside so they stayed preserved. Why not? My kid-brain decided this was the sensible thing to do.

Lots of treasures

My mom saved so many of my childhood treasures:
Barbie dolls, Cabbage Patch Kids, Strawberry Shortcake dolls, My Little Pony figures, Star Wars toys—and yes, my entire sticker collection. Most people grow up and lose track of their childhood stuff, but my mom held onto everything.

Recently, I went through my Star Wars figures and—surprise!—I ended up selling them on eBay. I had no idea anyone would want them, but they sold quickly. And now I’m looking at my sticker collection and realizing… people are buying vintage stickers too!

I never would’ve guessed that my childhood obsession might actually be worth something.

How to list

So now I’m trying to decide how to list them.
Should I:

  • Sell everything as one big lot?
  • Sell each sheet individually?
  • Or make little bundles like “popcorn + cherry + chocolate + cotton candy scratch-and-sniff”?

What would collectors prefer?

I’m posting photos of my full collection soon (minus the scratch-and-sniff ones—I still need to photograph those). I’ve organized the binders by brand—Sandy Lion, Mrs. Grossman’s, Hambly, and others. Yes, my childhood OCD came in handy.

A few people have asked why I don’t just give the stickers to my daughter. Well…I can tell you right now she doesn’t care that much. She might think they’re cute for a minute, but she’d probably destroy them, and these deserve a better fate than ending up in the washing machine or stuck to rollerblades.

So, I’ve decided that selling them is the best option. Someone out there will appreciate these stickers the way tiny-me once did.
