I wanted to share a fun craft my daughter and I did while she was out of school around Valentine’s Day—we made homemade shower steamers! We had an absolute blast, and it was such a simple project. We actually made two batches: one for sleep and one for energy. It doesn’t take many ingredients, and it’s much cheaper than buying them in stores. Plus, this way, you know exactly what’s going into them—no unnecessary additives!
Shower Steamer Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups baking soda
- 1 cup citric acid
- 60 drops of essential oils
- Food coloring (optional)
- About 10 sprays of witch hazel
- A pair of gloves
- Silicone molds
Instructions
- Sift the baking soda into a glass mixing bowl.
- Add the citric acid and mix well with a wooden spoon.
- Add 60 drops of essential oils.
- Add food coloring, if using.
- Mix until the oils and food coloring are fully incorporated.
- Spray a few spritzes of witch hazel and mix with your hands (this is where you’ll need gloves).
- When the mixture has the consistency of wet sand, it’s ready.
- Press the mixture firmly into the silicone molds, ensuring they are packed evenly.
- Let them dry overnight.
- The next day, pop them out of the molds, and they’re ready to use!
Essential Oil Blends
- Sleep shower steamers: Lavender, Bergamot, Chamomile, Sandalwood
- Energizing shower steamers: Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Sweet Orange, Lemongrass
They turned out amazing! My daughter used a sleep steamer in the shower before bed, and it really seemed to help her fall asleep—something she usually struggles with. Not only was this a fun project, but it also had a practical benefit. A total win-win in my book!
Let me know if you try these and what you think!
