Grow Herbs and Vegetables Year-Round
With summer behind us, the shorter days signal a new chapter. My daughter and I were initially concerned about missing our time outdoors and getting our hands in the dirt, but we’ve realized just how important gardening is to our well-being. The satisfaction we get from it is undeniable; we always feel a sense of accomplishment after harvesting our fruits and vegetables. Not to mention, it’s a significant win for my budget since I can save by not purchasing overpriced produce at the grocery store. I’ve made the decision to continue growing my vegetables and herbs throughout the year, and I’ve done my research on how to maintain this project despite the colder weather. I found that I can effectively grow many of the plants I typically grow in my garden indoors. I already have the necessary pots and potting soil, so I am absolutely going to move forward with this plan and make it happen.
Starting Small
Currently, I am starting small to avoid feeling overwhelmed with my project. I already have grow lights for starting seeds indoors before transplanting them outdoors. I am using a long rectangular pot, which will allow me to start many different seeds at once. We will be growing Micro Greens, Thyme, Sweet Basil, Sage, Chives, Dill, and Spinach. I planted the seeds and placed the pot under the grow lights. Most of the seeds I am starting state that it takes 7-10 days to germinate. I really am excited about the prospect of being able to make fresh salads and having fresh greens and herbs to cook with. I wonder what else besides herbs and small veggies I can grow indoors. Has anyone tried growing a potted fruit tree inside? I would love to hear about anyone’s experience with growing dwarf fruit trees indoors.
With prices and the economy the way it is currently, the more I think about growing my own food the more it just makes sense. I want to become more self-sufficient and have healthy food options at my fingertips.

I found two good options for seeds to purchase online.
